Therefore, a manual matching method was developed to greatly improve the economic benefits of keeping meat pigeons. The specific methods are:
Formulate seedling retention criteria, select young 3-4 months old breeders for breeding, and keep males and females in separate rows; when young breeders are raised to 5 months of age (naturally matched birds are usually raised to 6 months of age), select The standard of education is to carry out male-female collocation (usually enhanced observation, to improve the male and female identification accuracy rate, and the pairing rate can reach 98%), and the breeding cage is fed with breeding pigeons. On May 10th, 2003, our team used the above method to pair the 1,000 pairs of young breeders with 5 months of age. There were 980 pairs of young breeders that reached the state of affinity within 8 days, accounting for 98% of the total. Around May 25, 2003, the batch of pigeons laid eggs one after another. The fertilization rate was 96.8% and the survival rate was 94.2%. In addition, the production period of the entire group of birds is one month ahead of schedule, saving more than 3,000 kilograms of feed and saving more than 7,000 yuan. If calculated by output, 650 pairs of commercial pigeons are produced, each of which is priced at 20 yuan, and the total income is increased by 13,000 yuan.
Practice has proved that artificial matching of meat pigeons has the following advantages: 1. Avoiding inbreeding, overcoming the degradation of variety, coat color, body type, weight, etc. caused by natural match; 2.
