The importers lose money and the days of domestic raw milk powder will be even worse.

Compared with the price of imported raw milk powder, imported brands of infant milk powder are constantly rising.

"Daily Economic News" reporter learned that in 2008 China imported 140,000 tons of milk powder; in 2009 it surged to 310,000 tons, an increase of 121%; in 2010 it increased to 480,000 tons, an increase of 55%; and continued in 2011. In the first half of this year, the import volume of milk powder has exceeded the total amount in 2009. Compared with the increase in imports, the price of “foreign milk powder” is also rising all the way. Some brands of “foreign milk powder” have soared from RMB 200 to RMB 500 per can. With such a strong market demand, how can imported milk powder come with price diving?

In this regard, Ms. Wei explained that the main customers of domestic importers are mainly domestic dairy product companies, and the reason for the price jump is mainly due to oversupply.

As an importer, the cycle of purchasing raw milk powder from foreign countries takes about four months. The milk powder currently sold was actually placed under the auction market in June because the market demand was strong, so the importers' expectations for the second half of the year were also comparable. High, 4 months ago, too many orders, causing the current oversupply triggered price diving. Ms. Wei introduced that at present, some importers with large import volumes are facing great financial pressure. Some importers even have no money to pay customs duties and warehousing fees because of the backlog of goods. In order to repay loans and turnover cash flow in time, they have to lose money to sell. Otherwise, it will only be more passive.

For the importer's experience, dairy industry expert Wang Dingmian said that the chaos of imported milk powder in the domestic market has affected the normal judgment of importers. The current fall in the price of imported raw material powder can only be adjusted by the market itself.
