Invisible mastitis prevention, to detect somatic cells
Recessive mastitis does not show symptoms on the surface, but it can significantly affect dairy cows' milk production. The number of somatic cells can reflect whether cows have subclinical mastitis. In one milliliter of milk, if the number of somatic cells exceeds 200,000, it means that there is a certain degree of infection in the cow's udder. Some large-scale dairy farms lowered the number of somatic cells in milk by “threshold†below 500,000 per milliliter.
The output of dairy cows abroad can reach 10 tons per year, but in China, the output of many dairy cows is only 5-6 tons. Professor Wang said that if we can achieve immediate results in increasing production, as long as we can improve the quality of roughage and prevent hidden mastitis, it would not be a problem to produce one ton of milk per cow.

Improvements in dairy cow breeds and raising reproduction rates are two different things.
