Analgesics may cause miscarriage
American medical experts warn that pregnant women and those who wish to become pregnant should avoid certain types of analgesics because these drugs may increase the chance of miscarriage. The relevant research report was published in the British Medical Journal.
The study was conducted in California, USA. Experts compared the different types of analgesics with the probability of abortion during the study. Studies have shown that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have a higher chance of causing pregnancy loss in pregnant women. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs include aspirin and ibuprofen. The new findings further confirm the conclusion of a similar study published in 2001. At the time, some Danish researchers said that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may cause miscarriage.
In the latest study, scientists studied 1,055 pregnant women. They found that the chance of miscarriage among pregnant women taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increased by 80%. However, the researchers pointed out that due to the limited number of women participating in the study, the figures obtained are not always accurate.
Research seems to indicate that the chance of abortion is particularly high if non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used during conception. The figures show that women who take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during the early stages of pregnancy are five times more likely to have a miscarriage than other women who took the same drug later in pregnancy.
The study did not have an in-depth understanding of the possible effects of doses. However, the researchers pointed out that women who take the drug for more than one week have a higher chance of abortion. The study also found no increase in miscarriage opportunities in women taking paracetamol (paracetamol). Experts pointed out that this may be because paracetamol only affects the human central nervous system. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have an impact on the human body as a whole and therefore may impede the normal implantation of embryos into the mother. With accidental complications such as abortion syndrome, there is still the risk of the following complications after surgery.
