In the early spring drought, topdressing with ammonium bicarbonate is better than urea

Recently, the author came to the South District of Minnan and discovered that many farmers are also cultivating wheat while topdressing urea to promote early-onset seedlings. When the author asked why it was not using ammonium bicarbonate, one old farmer said: ammonium bicarbonate is more troublesome than urea. Therefore, in recent years, topdressing with urea. As an writer who has been engaged in the promotion of agricultural science and technology for many years, he had patiently talked about the characteristics of urea and ammonium bicarbonate. The peasants felt that it was reasonable and they changed their minds and prepared to apply ammonium bicarbonate to top-dressing. To this end, the author reminded the farmers: this spring drought, early spring topdressing urea not only promotes the wheat seedlings are not worthwhile, other seedlings topdressing urea at low temperatures are not worthwhile.

Urea is the highest nitrogen content in solid nitrogen fertilizer, and it is suitable for all kinds of soils and all kinds of crops, especially for topdressing. It has a good effect, so most farmers have used urea for top-dressing since their own urea. However, tests have shown that the application of urea in various seedlings under low temperature conditions is not as effective as using ammonium bicarbonate. Why is this?

The farmer said it well: "Fertilization is also good, and the energy is good." It turned out that crops cannot directly absorb and use urea, and can only be converted into ammonium carbonate under the action of urinary bacterial enzymes in the soil for root absorption, and urea conversion. The speed of ammonium carbonate has a great relationship with soil temperature. The conversion can be completed in two to three days at a temperature of 30°C, and it takes 4 to 5 days at 20°C, but it takes 7 to 10 days at 10°C, and the conversion rate is very slow at temperatures below 10°C.

The wheat return fertilizer is mainly targeted at those wheat fields with weak seedlings, insufficient populations, or defertilizers. However, due to the return of wheat, the ground temperature is still below 10°C. Especially this year, in order to make full use of the wells and other water sources, some wheat fields are irrigated earlier. After urea is applied to the soil, urea is present in a molecular state before it is converted into ammonium nitrogen, and it is difficult to be adsorbed by the soil colloid and is easily lost. Especially for the land with strong penetrating power, the fertilizer effect is often lost due to slower fertilizer efficiency. loss. In contrast, ammonium bicarbonate evaporates little at temperatures below 20°C. After being applied to the soil, ammonium ions can be rapidly adsorbed by soil colloids. The adsorption power is 8 times that of urea. Therefore, it is not easy to lose water. After testing, the application of ammonium bicarbonate in the early spring wheat field is about 1.3 times more effective than in the hot season.

From an economical point of view, the application of ammonium bicarbonate is also less expensive than using urea. The nitrogen content of urea is 46%, and ammonium bicarbonate is 17%. Theoretically, the urea price should be 2.7 times the price of ammonium bicarbonate. In recent years, however, the actual price of urea is generally between 3 and 3.8 times that of ammonium bicarbonate. As such, it is not worthwhile to use topdressing fertilizer in early spring.

From this point of view, the application of ammonium bicarbonate in early spring is not only economical but also effective. Saving money means increasing income and good results can yield high yields. Therefore, to remind farmers, not only the use of ammonium bicarbonate for drought resistance and seedling promotion in the early spring of this year, but also for ammonium bicarbonate in the winter and spring seasons, and to leave urea in the high temperature season.
