Lesions on leaf sheaths mostly occurred on the leaf sheaths of the panicles, beginning with auburn and short-spotted, water-soaked spots. Most of the fusions showed irregular large spots. The central tissue of the lesions later became necrotic and grayish brown. The panicle generally occurs on the chaff shortly after heading. The lesions are nearly round and are small brown spots. When the flag leaf sheath is seriously affected before heading, the panicles cannot be normally extracted, which has a great impact on the yield.

The host range of bacterial brown spot disease is very broad. Apart from damaging rice and upland rice, it can still infect wheat, millet, sorghum and barren wild rice, leech grass, rice bran, green foxtail, Northeastern goosegrass, etc. A variety of weeds. In the Northeast, the growth period of these weeds is earlier than that of rice and land rice.
