How to raise boars

The core of breeding and management of boars is to enable boars to produce high-quality semen and maintain a strong breeding ability. The sow's conception rate and litter size are not only related to the mother but also the semen quality of the boar. The breeding and management of breeding boars must mainly focus on the following three sections.

1. Meet nutritional needs. Although China has established standards for raising boars, according to surveys, most pig farms in China currently use pregnant sows instead of boars. The American NRC's standards also classify the two as one. Each kilogram of dietary requirement contains 3210 kcal of metabolizable energy and 12% of crude protein. However, the standard developed by our country is only 2880 kcal/kg. Therefore, according to the NRC standard, it takes about 1.9 kg per head per day. However, according to China's standards, 2.3 kg per head per head during the breeding period, or 2.5-2.8 kg in the winter. The daily feeding amount can be flexibly controlled with reference to the above criteria, so as to maintain the boar's body condition without being fat, thin, or energetic. If it is seasonal delivery, in the season of breeding, the boar must be fed with eggs or duck eggs in order to improve the sexual desire and semen quality of the boar.

2. Implement scientific management. Boars are to be reared in single-columns, and the columns must be kept cool in winter and cool in summer and kept dry and clean. The feeding, drinking, exercise, rest, breeding, brushing, bathing and other activities of boars must be institutionalized and regularized, and should not be changed easily. Breeding is best done before and after feeding. Generally, boars are rushed to the sow's sports grounds for breeding, and the sows are not rushed to the boar for breeding.

3. Adhere to reasonable use. The mating age of lean boars is generally not earlier than 240 days and the weight is not less than 100 kg. The use of boar can be divided into high strength and medium strength. The former is bred twice a day, 8-10 hours apart, with a 2-day rest for 1 day. Youth boars have shorter arrangements. In the use of boars, it is best not to exceed the index of high-intensity use, otherwise the amount of semen will decrease, and the quality will decrease, affecting the conception rate and litter size of sows, leading to the premature elimination of boars.
