Chinese and foreign scientists exchanged the latest results of stem cell research. According to the Science and Technology Daily News, nearly 500 representatives from more than 20 countries and regions including China, the United States, and Germany attended the 2007 Shanghai International Stem Cell Symposium on November 6. Participants focused on adult stem cells, embryonic stem cells, stem cell microenvironment and regulation, stem cell reprogramming, epigenetics and cloning, stem cell directed differentiation, and ethical guidelines for stem cell research.
Zhang Xianen, Director of the Department of Basic Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, encouraged the Chinese and foreign scientists to actively cooperate in the opening speech of the seminar to jointly promote the cooperation of stem cell research for the benefit of mankind.
John Gearhart of Johns Hopkins University in the United States gave a keynote speech entitled "Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research: Past, Present and Future." During the seminar, including 21 international representatives such as Dr. George Daley of Harvard University, Dr. Konrad Hochedlinger of Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. TariqEnver of Oxford University, and Dr. Toshio Suda of Keio University of Japan, Li Lingheng, Cheng Linyi, Lin Haifan, etc. Twenty-four overseas Chinese outstanding stem cell experts and 33 domestic representatives will report to the conference and the branch, and more than 100 domestic and foreign scholars will participate in the conference by wall poster.
The conference aims to promote academic exchanges between scientists engaged in stem cell research in China and international counterparts, promote international cooperation in stem cell research in China, and enhance the international status of stem cell research in China.
According to the chairman of the organizing committee of this seminar and Dr. Xu Guozhen from the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University, this seminar is one of the series of exchange activities of the 10th anniversary of the 973 program and the major scientific plan for development and reproduction research.
The conference consisted of the Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, the Fudan University Biomedical Research Institute, the Peking University Stem Cell Institute, the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, and the International Stem Cell Research Institute. The Society (ISSCR) cooperates to host. Academician of the Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of Tongji University, and Chairman of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology, Academician Yan Gang, served as the Chinese President, and Dr. George Daley, Chairman of the ISSCR, served as the Foreign Chairman.
